Most people know Fowles as a fantastic place to buy discount carpet, and our carpet sales are legendary in Melbourne. However, if you look at the categories above, you’ll notice that we have a Home Renovators’ Auction and a Timber and Building Materials Auction in addition to our Carpet Auction. In this post, we’re going to focus on the Building Materials Auction and on some of the types of materials and items we’ve had available in the recent past.
Types of Timber at the Auction
We usually have timber that’s suitable for framing, good quality decking material and special purpose timber. If you’ve been thinking about building your own shed, cabana or deck, then Fowles Timber and Materials Auction might be your ticket to incredible savings. In the recent past, we’ve had a huge amount of structural timber that’s suitable for super-long joists. We usually have a variety of decking, too. Just call and ask if you’re looking for something specific.
We’ve recently had some high quality timber rounds that could be used as fence posts, poles or even structural columns in a porch or deck. Depending on the week, you might also find mouldings, dowels, sill material and other specialised timber. Most of this is high quality tradie pine, but we occasionally have hardwood and engineered wood, as well. Depending on the week, you might find some termite treated or moisture resistant timber. You’ll almost always find solid hardwood and bamboo flooring at our Timber and Building Materials Auction, too. Recently, we’ve had white oak, silkwood and black bamboo flooring.
Types of Building Materials at the Auction
Aside from the timber, we usually have building materials like bulk screws and nails, grout, tile adhesive, landscape adhesive, brick and block. We usually have a selection of floor and wall tile: boxes of ceramic tile and sometimes luxury tile like slate and marble, as well. You will likely find vinyl and laminate flooring on the go. There’s even the occasional bathroom or kitchen fixture included as part of the auction—basins, toilets and the like—although you may also find fixtures included in the Home Renovator’s Auction.
In short, you never know what we will have from week to week. We even had a pallet of truck oil filters recently!
How Does the Auction Work?
To take part in the auction, all you need to do is find out whether you need any of what we have available in the coming week, and then either come to the Wednesday morning auction or send us bidding instructions; one of our employees can represent you if you are unable to attend. There are two ways to find out what will be on auction. The first is to visit us during our normal business hours, as soon before Wednesday morning as possible, so you’ll get a complete picture of what will be available. The second is to peruse our auction catalogue and video. They can be found here on our website.
